Southbury Ambulance Association has developed some tips in honor of the Holiday Season Drunk Driving Campaign.
December is here which means a fun holiday season, but that also includes lots of ice and snow which leads to hazardous driving conditions. Holiday parties often lead to a lot more drunk drivers on the road. Here are some tips to prevent accidents due to drunk driving this season.
According to the National Safety Council, during the 2020 Christmas holiday period 39% of accidents involved a drunk driver. The best way to prevent these accidents is to always drive sober and be careful of your surroundings. The ice and snow making drunk driving more dangerous.
Also, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recommends planning ahead of holiday gatherings. If you will be consuming alcohol, make sure you have a designated driver and if you are the designated driver commit to being 100% sober. If you see a friend of family member driving under the influence, offer them a ride home or stop them from driving until they are sober.
As the holiday season is here, safe driving is one of the best gifts you can give others. Make sure that you are wary of the snow and ice on the roads, and enjoy the holidays!
