September Safety Article: National Recovery Month
Southbury Ambulance Association has developed some tips in order to help the community during National Recovery Month.
September is National Recovery Month and this month is about raising awareness about mental health and addiction recovery. Prioritizing your mental wellbeing and health is important, so we hope that these tips will help you learn more about the resources out there.
In terms of mental health, it is important to know that you are never alone, and that there are many resources out there to help support you. According to the National Institute of Mental Health, some ways to help improve your mental health are getting regular exercise, making sleep a priority in your life, and trying new hobbies. In addition, it can be helpful to set aside some time to reflect on your day and think about what you are grateful for in life. Staying connected with friends and family can also help seeing as they can provide emotional support.
In terms of recovery, it can be a complex thing to overcome, but it is possible. If you are going through the recovery process, one thing that can help is making a clear list of reasons for why you want to recover and making sure this list is highly visible to you. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the stigma surrounding addiction can negatively impact the recovery process, so if you are supporting someone overcoming addiction, make sure that you are providing unconditional support.
If you want to work on your mental health or addiction recovery, we encourage you to reach out to your healthcare provider for more information and resources. We hope that these tips will help you during National Recovery Month.
