Southbury Ambulance Association (SAA)   2024 Call Report

Southbury Ambulance Association responded to 1,588 calls in the first half (Jan-June) of 2024. The top four categories for 9-1-1- requests were for Falls; Sickness; Medical; and Heart related illness. Advanced Life Support (ALS) transport with a Paramedic was provided 35%; Basic Life Support (BLS) with an EMT crew 41.4%; and no transport was provided 24.2 %. No transport calls are a significant percentage of responses contributing to the need to use mutual aid services (from our surrounding neighbor services)  for other 9-1-1 emergency calls. Crews respond within three minutes of their notification with an on scene time just under eight minutes.  SAA continues to have volunteer members responding with paid staff. Most calls are during the business day, but the evening can also be active. As a 9-1-1 EMS ambulance service certified by the State of Connecticut, SAA is mandated to respond once 9-1-1- is activated. An emergency is constituted as “acute onset”. SAA is staffed 24/7 with multiple crews to serve the Town of Southbury with high quality emergency medical service. The cost of readiness is significant; the value of medical care and ambulance transport when needed is priceless.
