November Article: Health and Nutrition
Southbury Ambulance Association has researched to share some tips regarding proper nutrition and the benefits of eating healthy.
Making sure to eat a balanced diet with proper nutrients can help keep you healthy and make sure that your body is nourished.
According to Harvard Health, the food you eat supplies the nutrients you need to maintain your brain, muscle, bone, nerves, skin, blood circulation, and immune system. Good nutrition can also help lower your risk of heart disease, diabetes, and osteoporosis.
You should strive to consume both macronutrients (carbohydrates, protein, and fat) and micronutrients (vitamins and minerals). Macronutrients help provide energy to your body while micronutrients help produce enzymes and hormones.
According to the World Health Organization, some tips to have a healthy diet are eating plenty of fruits and vegetables, limiting saturated fats, and reducing salt and sugar intakes. This can help prevent hypertension, heart disease, and strokes. Also, make sure to consume enough protein, as it is necessary for muscle development and repair.
Proper nutrition is crucial in helping to reduce many health risks, especially health risks that come with older age. Properly fueling your body is one of the best preventative health measures.
Everyone’s diet can vary based on their needs and health conditions, so make sure to consult your health care provider with any specific questions about your diet and ways to eat healthier.
